Kol Nidre

September 18, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Beginning Tuesday night, we observe Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement (Vayikra [Leviticus] 16; 23:26-32).  Childcare will be provided during both services for children ages 0-8 only.

A few things to note: First, the attire for Yom Kippur is formal as we stand in awe and reverence of our great King.  It is very appropriate to wear an article of clothing that is white. Second, because of the holiness of the day, the Kol Nidrei Service (Evening Yom Kippur Service) is the only evening prayer service during the year when it is appropriate to wear a tallis. Third, one of the ways that the biblical command to “humble your souls” (Lev. 23:32) on Yom Kippur is traditionally observed is by not wearing leather on Yom Kippur. Leather is a symbol of luxury; it has the potential to make us proud. Refraining from wearing leather on Yom Kippur is a declaration of humility before the L-rd.
